Derek Kevra is a meteorologist from Livonia, Michigan, currently providing weather forecasts on WJBK Fox 2 Detroit. Early life Derek was born and raised in Livonia, Michigan and attended Stevenson High School, Riley Middle School, and Coolidge Elementary. He received his Meteorology degree from the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences department of the University of Michigan. Awards In 2015, Derek was nominated for two local Emmy awards for a sports feature and for on-camera weather talent. Career In 2012, Derek was awarded the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal from the American Meteorological Society. According to the AMS, the seal represents that, "the holder meets specific educational and experience criteria and has passed rigorous testing in their knowledge and communication of meteorology and related sciences needed to be an effective broadcast meteorologist." After interning at WJBK Fox 2 News in Detroit, Michigan, Derek's career started at KDRV in Medford, Oregon as the station's morning meteorologist. After two and a half years, Derek became the meteorologist at WWLTV, New Orleans. At WWLTV, Derek provided emergency weather updates continuously over a 5 day 24 hour broadcast of Hurricane Isaac. Derek is now back on the Fox 2 team as a meteorologist for the Detroit region.
