Dennis van Uhm

Dennis van Uhm (died April 18 2008) was a First Lieutenant in the Royal Netherlands Army. He was the son of Dutch general and Chief of the Netherlands Defence Staff Peter van Uhm. He was deployed to the Afghan province of Uruzgan as part of the ISAF mission and Task Force Uruzgan.
Lieutenant van Uhm was killed in a roadside bombing in Uruzgan, the southern province of Afghanistan, the day after his father's installation as Chief of the Netherlands Defence Staff. He was killed in an explosion 12 kilometers (or 7 miles), northwest of Camp Holland, the Dutch military base in Uruzgan. A spokesman for the Taliban said that militants had known about his movements and had targeted him. The Dutch government rejected this claim. Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said in The Hague: "Our information is that there is no indication of any link between this cowardly deed and the fact that it was the son of the defense chief."
