DEMAND computing is an acronym that stands for "Distributed Extensible Mobile Application Network and Data Computing" and constitutes a methodology where two or more devices (but typically a large number of devices) provides a web service that uses the processor and storage of the devices in a network rather that servers in a data center. DEMAND computing is not to be confused by On Demand Computing, which uses a similar terminology, and describes a system where computing resources in an inactive state become active based on demand for computing nodes or performance. DEMAND Computing is rather a methodology where devices capable of running Distributed Applications (DAPPs) share computing power and storage in a distributed fashion rather than going to a central computing data center. History of Computing Methodologies This is a simplified list of the major milestones in the evolution of computing methodologies: * Personal computer * Client-server computing * Datacenter * Cloud computing * DEMAND computing Etymology The term "DEMAND Computing" was coined by inventor and engineer Clas Sivertsen who is a veteran with American Megatrends and presently reside in Georgia, USA and Taipei, Taiwan. Although the vision of this computing model was conceived much earlier, the acronym itself was coined on Thursday, September 5, 2013.
