Death of Sharmila Banu

Sharmila Banu was an Indian armed police at St.Thomas Mount of Tamil Nadu. Daughter of P. Sikkandar of Kottaiyur in Naththam village in Dindugal district joined the Armed Police after completing her 10th in school. Sharmila's parents were informed that Sharmila was found be attempting suicide by hanging herself in the ceiling fan and died on the way to the hospital. But foul play was suspected in her death as Sharmila's parents found the Police department's actions weird.
Sharmila's Death and Suspicions
The police first informed Sharmila's parents on 14 April 2014, 8:30.P.M. that she had met with an accident. When Sharmila's parents went to meet their daughter they were forced to put their signature in the FIR which stated that she committed suicide due to love failure by the policemen. Held by the police for two days 15 April and 16 April 2014 and also threatened that they wont be given her body Sharmila's parents signed the FIR and received her body. Its also alleged that the Police unsuccessfully bribed Sharmila's parents with 15000Rupees and a Government job offer for her sister. On April 17, 2014 when Sharmila's parents took her body to their hometown they found her nose crushed and there were also injuries in her private parts.
Outrage
Suspecting that Sharmila was sexually abused and killed later, Banu's parents, relatives and public took her body and gathered before Naththam police station. As police vehicles blocked the ambulance carrying Banu's body people got outraged and more than a thousand people gathered near the Naththam bus stand roundabout and protested by blocking the traffic.
Investigation
The Naththam Dasildhar Narayanan, DSPs Vanitha, Ramachandran, Jaanakiraman negotiated with the protesters. Sikkandar, Banu's father, demanded a CBI probe on Banu's death to which the officers agreed. He also approached the High Court's bench, seeking a re-postmortem. Justice R. Subbiah who heard passed the direction on the writ petition filed by Sharmila's father P.Sikkandar. Despite recording the submission, the judge gave a specific direction to the GRH Dean as the petitioner's counsel, W. Peter Ramesh Kumar, claimed that the doctors in GRH were refusing to conduct postmortem since Banu had died under mysterious circumstances in Chennai. The Dean of Government Rajaji hospital will assign a team of doctors to conduct a second postmortem on Banu's body and videotape the entire medical examination.
