Dean Anthony Gratton

Dean Anthony Gratton (born 1968) is a bestselling author and columnist, specialising in wireless communications.
Early life
Dean Anthony Gratton was born and grew up in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan. Gratton is the first of three children and has two younger sisters, Lisa and Teresa. He attended High Street Primary School, Barry Comprehensive School, Barry College and later Coleg Glan Hafren, Cardiff.
Career
One of Gratton's first jobs was at Barry Island Pleasure Park. He later started employment as a cook at the former Butlin's Barry Island holiday resort.
In 1989, he secured his first software engineering role with Coinmaster Manufacturing Limited (later Coinmaster Gaming Products Limited), Penarth Road, Cardiff, which entered into administrative receivership, March 2003.
Gratton moved to Cambridge, England in the mid-1990s to further his career in software engineering. In 2000 Gratton became Editor of the Specification of the Bluetooth Profiles v1.1, Part K:9 (the ) and in 2001 his work with Bluetooth wireless technology received a US patent. Later that year, Gratton received a publishing contract for his first book titled Bluetooth Profiles: The Definitive Guide, Prentice Hall (an imprint of Pearson Education) which was subsequently published in January 2003. He also participated in defining the initial Bluetooth Personal Area Networking (PAN) profiles, and was active in the Near Field Communication technology and marketing committees.
Gratton studied for a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with the Open University and later in 2007 he received a Doctorate and a contributor and provides an authoritative published and vocal presence within the wireless communications industry.
The Lawnmower Man Effect (LME)
LME is a term used to conceptualise a new generation of consumers who seek a permanent connection, such as the Internet. Gratton has created the term in his book, The Handbook of Personal Area Networking Technologies and Protocols, to be published in 2013 by Cambridge University Press.
Social media
Gratton has become an influential social media persona (as @grattonboy) with an increasing Twitter following and has been listed in the 50 “Top Dogs” of Twitter (bullsandbeavers.com). Gratton co-authored the book, Zero to 100,000: Social Media Tips and Tricks for Small Businesses. and in it, he discusses the effectiveness of utilizing Cross Platform Promotion (CPP) to ensure consistent brand messaging across all social media platforms. CPP tools, such as TweetDeck and HootSuite help deliver consistency across all social media platforms. Gratton is listed as one of the 'Top Marketing Book Authors on Twitter' in Social Media Marketing Magazine and is listed in the 'Top 5' most influential Twitter users in the United Kingdom as rated by Tweet Grader.
Cross platform promotion (CPP)
TwittersGotTalent.TV
Gratton is the co-producer and host of online TV talent show TwittersGotTalent.TV where contestants submit videos to the show and the Twitter community vote for their favourite act. The show is currently suspended, as it seeks further funding and sponsorship. TwittersGotTalent.TV was featured on the BBC’s Click TV programme.
