History
Deafax was founded in 1985 by Ken Carter, a teacher and also a father to a deaf daughter. Deafax started by offering deaf people access to new technology to provide them with greater opportunities in life. Deafax found that this reduce feelings of isolation and helped people to regain self-confidence. Deafax has delivered projects on a regional, national and international basis and is a pioneering organisation.
Recent developments
Recently Deafax has pioneered the deaf-friendly approach to developing training and resources. This includes a new consultancy service offering others the chance to make their skills and make their material more visually accessible. This unique process of making things deaf-friendly means that people who prefer visual learning e.g. those with dyslexia or second language learners, can access information more easily.
