Macaco de perigo

The Macaco de perigo (Portuguese for "Danger Monkey") is a symbol that appears on unauthorized signage in certain transit corridors around Boston, MA.

The meaning and purpose of these signs is not readily apparent. It is unknown if these signs are related to the "MO NKEY MONKEY <===>" signs found at some intersections in the same areas.

Known Locations

*Beverly, MA — Beverly Depot MBTA Station (depicted above)
*Chelsea, MA — Chelsea MBTA Station (similar to above, but red and black)
*Newburyport, MA — The intersection of Water and State Street. Shades of brown and white.
*Revere, MA — To the east in the marshes in when looking from an MBTA train (this is a very large, perhaps five or more feet tall, freestanding brown Macaco).
*Portland, ME — There is a MO NKEY MONKEY sign on Stevens Avenue at the intersection with Brighton Avenue directly in front of Udder Place Coffee.
*Beverly, MA — BEV/SAL bridge, salem side - one of the few remaining.
