David Lawrence is a director, editor, and producer who currently lives in Glendale, California. He edited and co-directed with Rodney Ascher the critically acclaimed documentary The El Duce Tapes, a character study of the lead singer of The Mentors, Eldon Hoke. It premiered at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in 2019, went on to play the BFI London Film Festival, and was released by Arrow Films in 2020. He edited Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist, directed by Alexandre O. Philippe. It premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, played at the Sundance Film Festival, and was released by Shudder in 2020. He’s also worked in music videos, directing the YACHT video L.A. Plays Itself, and editing the on-stage videos for John Carpenter’s concert tour to accompany the scores from his films. |
