Darwin200 is the name for various celebrations of the Charles Darwin bicentenary around the world in 2008 and 2009. Darwin200 is a national programme of events celebrating Charles Darwin’s life, times, scientific ideas and their impact, focussed around his two hundredth birthday on 12 February 2009. The celebrations began on 1 July, 150 years since Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace announced the theory of evolution by natural selection that has had great impact on science and society, and in many areas events will continue until 24 November 2009, the 150th anniversary of the publication of the Origin of Species.
