Dark Rangers

The Dark Rangers are a group of five fictional characters in the Power Rangers universe. They appeared in the second season of the television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Lord Zedd had intended for his Green Crystal to absorb the remaining Green Ranger powers and use them as the source for his new rangers.

History and Powers
The Dark Rangers were the first team of Rangers to be evil. They were five punks who were recruited by Lord Zedd much like the original team of Power Rangers were recruited by Zordon.

The Dark Rangers were created by Lord Zedd in the episode "Green No More, Part I" within Zedd's dimension, named the Otherworld. Concurrently, he created the Turbanshell monster to fight the Rangers. They were supposed to be powered by the Green Ranger powers drained from Tommy by Zedd's Turbanshell monster. When Tommy destroyed the crystal, the Dark Rangers reverted back to their normal forms and automatically teleported out before Zedd could put the next phase of his plan into action.

Red Dark Ranger (aka: Justin)
The Red Dark Ranger, was one of the four Dark Ranger characters to be named on-screen. He is similar to Jason Lee Scott in appearance but is the polar opposite as far as attitude goes. Justin is very head strong and the other Dark Rangers seem to follow his lead no questions asked.

Blue Dark Ranger
The Blue Dark Ranger is similar to Billy Cranston in appearance but is the polar opposite as far as attitude goes. The Blue Dark Ranger is not named on screen.

Black Dark Ranger (aka: Zane)
The Black Dark Ranger, was one of the four Dark Ranger characters to be named on-screen. He is similar to Zack Taylor in appearance but is the polar opposite as far as attitude goes.

Pink Dark Ranger (aka: Hilary)
The Pink Dark Ranger, was one of the four Dark Ranger characters to be named on-screen. She is similar to Kimberly Hart in appearance but is the polar opposite as far as attitude goes.

Yellow Dark Ranger (aka: Tina)
The Yellow Dark Ranger, was one of the three Dark Ranger characters to be named on-screen. She is similar to Trini Kwan in appearance but is the polar opposite as far as attitude goes.

Names
Justin, Tina, Hilary,and Zane are the only Dark Rangers to be referred to by name in the "Green No More" episodes.

Behind the Scenes
Stunt coordinator Jeff Pruitt once stated that a Dark Rangers battle was planned, but scrapped when the suits proved to be too low quality for what was desired since the Dark Ranger costumes are recolored versions of some Z-Putty costumes.

None of the actors were credited, and thus, their identities remain unknown.

Appearance In Other Media
The Dark Rangers are created in Marvel Comics Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Ninja Rangers #3. Zedd creates them from the remaining energy of the Dino Coins. They appear in the suits formerly worn by the Power Rangers (The Ninja Rangers title had them in their Ninja Uniforms in the series).

The majority of the story has both teams fighting each other with their Megazords (Thunder Megazord VS Ninja Megazord). Just as the Dark Rangers assemble the Mega Tigerzord, the Rangers respond by forming the Ninja Megafalconzord. The fight, however, comes to an abrupt end as the Mega Tigerzord mysteriously retreats. Which leaves the team wondering who piloted the Tigerzord, and if it was a friend or foe. The comic ended before the story could be resolved.

Zedd's Dark Rangers consisted of 5 particular criminals (thus not requiring a spell of sorts):
* Osamu Tezuka/Dark Red from Japan (Looter)

* Farai Jukwa/Dark Black from Zimbabwe (Bully)

* Nelida Valensisi/Dark Yellow from Colombia (Gang-Girl)

* Stanford Winner/Dark Blue from The US (Avaricious)

* Maire-Claire le Monde/Dark Pink from France (Sneak-Thief)

It isn't known if Zedd found a White Ranger as the Rangers believe Zedd himself might have piloted the Tigerzord. He also gave the Dark Rangers the capability to speak and understand English.
