Dark Eras

Dark Eras is an online text-based MMORPG. The game is entirely ran by the players. For example, quests are created by players, players rule the kingdoms, players do everything.

Gameplay
Quests
In Dark Eras, players create the quests for other players to complete. They select a goal (killing somone or gathering x amount of items) and they select the reward (given in gold coins).

Skills
There are 6 different skills in Dark Eras: strength, defense, cooking, mining, crafting and smithing. Each of them has a specific purpose.

Strength
The strength is a skill used for fighting. A high strength will inflict more damage to your enemies than a low strength. However, do not underestimate your equipment. A player with a good strength is worthless without a good weapon.

In order to increase strength, there are two things you can do:
* Attack players in a village
* Attack another village during a war

Defense
The defense is a skill used for fighting. A high defense will make you more resistant against any attack. A high defense will make you almost invulnerable to any attack made by a player with a low strength. Wearing armors will also increase your resistance.

In order to increase your defense, you have to defend your village against intruders during a war. If a player attacks you in PvP, you will also increase your defense.

Cooking
Cooking is a practical skill. The better you are in cooking, the easier it will be for you to satisfy your hunger. As all players need to eat, cooking is also a good way to make money.

You can increase your cooking skills by making any of the recipes in the game. Most of the ingredients are not sold in general stores. You have to buy seeds and plant them in a farm.

Crafting
Crafting is a skill that can make you rich. This skill will allow you to craft any kind of jewel (bracelet, necklace or ring). In order to make one of these, you need to use ores and therefore, you have to be good in mining too.

In order to craft a jewel, you will need the ingredients: ores and gems. The more valuable your gems and ores are, the more valuable your jewel will be. Get to a forge, add all the ores and gems you want to use, click on the Craft button and follow the instructions.

Jewels have no real power. They are only a sign of your richness and nobility.

Mining
Mining is the process of gathering ores and gems that can be used for crafting jewels and smithing weapons and armors.

There are three different ores in Dark Eras (copper ore, iron ore and gold ore). You will find mines in the wilderness only. Some places in the wilderness have more valuable mines, it's up to you to find the good spots. Don't forget your pickaxe, you can't mine with no pickaxe!

Gems can be found in mines as well but they are way harder to find as they are more valuable.

Smithing
Smithing is the process of melting ores together and crafting them into weapons and armors. Using a lot of valuable ores will make better weapons and better armors.

Before smithing, you need to be good enough in mining to collect ores in the wilderness. Then, get to a forge, add all the ores you want to use, click on the Smith button, then follow the instructions.

Map
Village
Every village in Dark Eras has a town center. Usually, you will find a Castle, a Barracks, a Bank, a Well, a Tribunal, a Temple, and a General Store. You can build residential buildings in residential districts located in the village. Every village is ruled by a lord, chosen by the royal family. Lords have the power to declare war against other villages, build new residential districts, fix the land tax, and control the village's army. The army has two goals: protecting the village from intruders during wars, and attacking other villages during wars. The lord chooses the army's salary. You can also join the militia, which is a last-resort defence. Miltiamen do not get paid, but they can make a huge difference in a war.
Wilderness
The Wilderness has two main purposes: Providing natural resources (ores and gems), and providing a quiet place to live. The wilderness provides and infinate number of ores and gems.

Character

Your character has to be taken care of. If you never feed him, if you never sleep your character's mood will dramatically decrease and your character will eventually die. Your profile contains a lot of information related to your character such as the name, the kingdom, the social status, the equipment, the statistics, the skills, the states and many more. You can also add a personal text on your profile where you could talk about your character.
Ranks
The rank is the level of your character. It shows your experience and knowledge of the game to other players. There are 10 ranks in Dark Eras, shown in ascending order:

* Vagrant
* Peasant
* Citizen
* Gentleman
* Esquire
* Bourgeois
* Nobleman
* Peer
* Aristocrat
* Hero

In order to get to the next rank, you have to complete several objectives as listed on the objectives page.
States
There are 5 different states in Dark Eras. Each of them is very important. If your character's states get too low (under 10%), you character may die. Here are the 5 states as displayed in your profile:

* Hunger
* Thirst
* Hygiene
* Energy
* Mood
Jobs
The jobs in Dark Eras are a good way to make money. There are several political jobs in your kingdom or village such as king, queen, lord and judge. A player can also hire you to work for him. He will then give you more details about your task and salary. For example, you could bring a specific amount of gems every day to a shopkeeper in exchange of 50 gc / day. Or, if you need people to do the "dirty" job for you, you could even hire players to work for you (their salaries will be taken from your bank account).

You can have more than one job at once, but only one primary job (which is displayed on your profile).
Reputation
Your reputation towards your kingdom is something very important. It represents your fidelity. People with a high reputation are usually more trustable than people with a low reputation.

There are 7 levels of reputation:

* Venerated (high)
* Honored
* Respected
* Friendly
* Neutral (average)
* Hostile
* Hated (low)

You can easily increase your reputation by doing one of the following:

* Attacking other villages during a war
* Getting married
* Suing a player and winning the case

On the other hand, your reputation will decrease if you do one of the following:
* Attacking a player from your kingdom
* Getting sued and loosing the case

Kingdoms
The three kingdoms in Dark Eras are France, Great Britain, and Spain.

Every kingdom is ruled by King and/or a Queen. They both have exactly the same powers. Together, they are the royal family. Being a member of the royal family is the most influent job you can get. Any member of the royal family is allowed to assign a new Lord to any of the village ruled by the kingdom.

Also, the royal family is allowed to choose kingdom leaders. Each kingdom leader may have its own job such as political advisor, diplomat, war general... Be awared that kingdom leaders (and only kingdom leaders) are allowed to establish a new village. Each new village will cost 1,000 gold to the kingdom.

Every kingdom has its own army. It is up to the royal family to decide of the function of their army (king and queen's bodyguards, offensive army, defensive army) as well as the salary of their soldiers.

The royal family has to maintain an accurate list of all the possible infringements. Any player that violates a law can be sued at a tribunal.
Revolt
If the royal family becomes too tyrannical according to you, you can start a revolt against the royal family. You need to be at rank 5 of higher to start a revolt.

When a revolt is started, each player of the kingdom is asked to vote whether for the revolt or for the royal family. If, after 3 days, the revolt has the most votes, then new elections will be launched automatically. Otherwise, the royal family stays in place.

Revolting is the only way to launch elections.
Elections
If you want to become the King or the Queen of your kingdom, you can do it by running for the kingship during the next elections. The people of the kingdom will then have to vote for one of the candidate. After 5 days, the candidate with the more votes will be chosen as King or Queen (depending of his gender of course).

There is another way of becoming King or Queen: marry the elected candidate.
Attacking
There are two different types of attacks in Dark Eras: PvP (player versus player) or wars.

During an attack, the attacker will oftenly inflict more damage to his opponent than a defender. That's because the attack is calculated upon three rounds. On the first and third round, the attacker will inflict damage to the defender. On the second round, the defender will inflict damage to the attacker. Basicly, the attacker has more opportunities to inflict damage than a defender. That's why the best defense is the attack.

Regardless of the type of attack, your strength and your weapon's potential damage are the two most important attack factors. They will determine the amount of damage your character will inflict to your enemy. You wil also get an extra attack bonus based on your mood. The higher your mood is, the bigger your attack bonus will be.

The defense is also an important skill. When being attacked by a player with a high strength, you will need a high defense. Otherwise, your character will probably die. Wearing armors is a good way to increase your resistance and to increase your chances of survival.
Player vs. Player
In order to attack another player, you will have to get to any village, then click on the View players in village button. A list of the currently active players will be displayed.

Beside each player's name, you will see the Attack button. Clicking on that button will make you attack this player. The attack is calculated as explained in the previous section.

You shouldn't attack players from your kingdom too oftenly, otherwise your reputation towards your kingdom will decrease.
Wars
Only the Lord has the power to start a war against another village.

There are five types of attack:

* Standard: Will attack all human defenses (army and militia).
* Genocide: Will brutally eliminate any encountered human presence.
* Pillage: Will steal a lot of money from people of the village..
* Sabotage: Will destroy as many buildings as possible.
* Siege: Will try to take control of the village.

When your village is at war against another one, you can participate in this war if you are part of your village army or militia. To do so, click on the World Map button in the menu, then click on the village you want to attack. You will be asked to choose from the following options: attack or move to that village. Click on the Attack button.
Trading
The trade process is divided in three steps. Firstly, you have to select the player with whom you want to trade. If a trade has been proposed to you, you will skip this step. Secondly, both players have to chose the items and/or the money they want to trade. Once you've made up your mind, click on the Done button. The last step is the confirmation. During this step, it is impossible to modify the items in the trade. Both players have to confirm the trade. If the trade is accepted by both players, the items and money will be exchanged.
