Daria Onyschenko

Daria Onyschenko (Daria OnyschenkoÀé) - Ukrainian-German film director, screenwriter and creative Film producer, journalist, member of the Ukrainian Film Academy.

Daria Onyshchenko was born in Kyiv in 1983. She graduated from the Faculty of International Journalism, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, but already in her student years Daria was dreaming of becoming a film director, was playing in the theatre, and was writing the scripts.

Daria moved in 2005 to Munich, Germany, where 5 years later she graduated from the famous Munich Academy of Film and Television with a Master's in film directing.

After several successful short films, Darya Onyshchenko made her debut feature film Eastalgia, which was co-production Germany-Ukraine-Serbia, has got many awards at the film festivals, and was one of the first Ukrainian feature films made according to the European Co-Production Convention. Last years Daria has been working in Ukraine, Germany, and Switzerland as a screenwriter and a film director. She is a member of one of the largest directing agencies in Germany, Above the Line, and the Ukrainian Film Academy.

Interesting fact
In 2018, Daria began preparing her second feature film The Forgotten, which was the Ukrainian-Swiss co-production and was filmed in January 2019 in Kyiv. The international premiere of The Forgotten took place in October 2019 within the competition program of the Warsaw Film Festival, where the film won the Special Jury Note.

Daria Onyshchenko works internationally, conducting masterclasses, and participating in various educational programs. Among her new projects: a historical film about the life and work of world-famous painter Kazimir Malevich Malevich.

Daria Onyshchenko is an active member of the Ukrainian diaspora in Munich, Germany and has been organizing the Ukrainian Film Days in Germany.

Interesting Facts
In the feature drama, The Forgotten Daria Onyshchenko collaborated with the famous Ukrainian sculptor and performer Maria Kulikovskaya. The Art Performance of Maria in the feature film demonstrates the possibility to combine different types of arts on the screen. Sculptures by Maria Kulikovskaya are a part of the film.

Famous Ukrainian Actor Alexey Gorbunov has played in both Daria's feature films. Daria likes to keep working with Mr. Gorbunov in the future.

Famous Austrian Actor Karl Markovic has played a leading part in Daria's debut film Eastalgia.

Daria Onyshchenko has been working on all her films with the famous Bosnian DoP Erol Zubcevic, also well-known for his work with Croatian director Danis Tanovic.
