Daphne Caruana Galizia

Daphne Caruana Galizia(born August 26, 1964) is a journalist, public relations consultant and blogger from Malta. Caruana Galizia started working in the Maltese media in 1988, and quickly established herself in her weekly column for The Times of Malta's Sunday edition, a position she no longer holds.
Caruana Galizia became known for her outspoken, acerbic and sensationalist views on political and social issues. She is today a columnist with The Malta Independent and The Malta Independent on Sunday, and a magazine publisher with three titles: 'Taste', 'Flair' and 'Town'.
Personal Life
On the afternoon of 8th December, 2009, Caruana Galizia's husband Peter, 54, lodged a report at Mosta police station, claiming to have been the victim of physical abuse at the hands of his wife at their home in Bidnjia.
Legal Difficulties
Upon being informed by a third party that magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera had mentioned knowledge of the report of spousal abuse at a social gathering, Galizia reported against the magistrate, making claims about her private life, illustrated with photographs from the the magistrate's friends' Facebook pages. Galizia then likened the magistrate and her partner, Nationalist mayor of Siggiewi and architect Robert Musumeci to Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy , characters from 1970s TV variety programme The Muppet Show. Subsequent allegations were thus accompanied by several photos of these two puppet characters. These allegations resulted in Galizia being charged with defamation . When informed that the defamation charges would be held in the court of Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona, Galizia made allegations of his sexual misconduct and claimed that such impropriety represented legal grounds to bar him from hearing her case. These objections have been described as "pointless" by retired Chief Justice Prof. Giuseppe Mifsud Bonnici . Galizia has also alleged that an editor of the Malta Today newspaper, Saviour Balzan and magistrate Scerri Herrera are linked, Balzan, however, has stated that he does not know Scerri Herrera.
