Damijo Efe-Young

Damijo Efe-Young is a Nigerian film director who co-produced and directed the award winning feature film WoEman and the short comedy, . His other movie projects, Stop! and Love is a Prank have also received Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards nominations, via the actors Ik Ogbonna (Stop! best comedy, 2016) and Hannah Ojo (Love is a Prank, Best Actress In a Drama Movie, 2017)
Early Life
Damijo Efe-Young was born in Ugelli North, Delta State, in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Career
Efe-Young started his film makers journey in the early 2000's as a script writer under the guidance of Nollywood veteran Director and Producer Chico Ejiro. Under Chico, Damijo Efe-Young would hone his film making skills on the set of Treasures, a Nigerian soap opera. In Treasures, Damijo would have his first Assistant Directorial credit, this would be in the year 2005. Damijo Efe-Young is known for his fluid cinematic style of story telling and the fast paced sequence of his movies. He is an admirer of Hollywood movie director, Stanley Kubrick, and he is partly influenced by his style of movie making.
Damijo goes off the norm of film making in Nollywood, and he aspires to always keep his viewing audience captivated, and not bore them with lengthy and unnecessary scenes. He has an uncanny knack for discovering the hidden talents of actors by casting them in roles that they are not used to playing. For instance, he gave IK Ogbonna his first comedy role in the movie Stop! A role which would earn Ik Ogbonna his first Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards nomination. He also has the ability to shock and bring viewers out of their comfort zones. He wrote and directed the controversial film Room 027, a movie which caused so much uproar over its nudity and sex scenes that is yet to be released to the general viewing public in Nigeria.
Damijo Efe-Young tells stories that have a strong social message. He believes that a movie should do more than just entertain; it should inform. He has done movies on HIV, and sickle cell anemia. WoEman, a film about sickle cell, would win the Nigerian BON Awards, in the category, "Movie with the Best Social Message"
