D. Matthew "Matt" Millar (born June 24, 1987) is a Canadian entrepreneur and newspaper publisher. He is the Chairman and CEO of The Millar Group and founder and Chairman of Union Jack News Corp. Personal life Millar grew up in the community of Steveston, British Columbia. He campaigned with former MLA and current Richmond City Councillor, Harold Steves to host the 2002 Tall Ships Challenge - the first event of its kind on West Coast of Canada. The festival drew over 400,000 attendees over the course of one weekend and was credited with setting the precedent to host the 2010 Winter Olympics venues of the Richmond Olympic Oval and Holland Heineken House. Millar continues to work with Tall Ships festivals across the West Coast of North America with a focus on developing programming using sail training as a model to empower and engage at-risk youth. Career Millar pursued an early career in academic research while studying towards medicine and working as a clinical and community health care provider. After experience in governance and policy development with non-profit organizations, he became a consultant in private enterprise. Business The Millar Group became the vehicle through which Millar conducted his consulting activities. The firm started in the academic, non-profit and healthcare sectors while focusing on research, policy architecture, project management and strategic planning. Government contracts with provincial and federal clients soon followed and Millar then expanded into public affairs, media relations and communications in the private and public sectors. The Millar Group has lobbied all levels of government on behalf of private interests and has represented various organizations and entities to the public at large. Union Jack (sometimes stylized as Union Jack News) is a nationally distributed newspaper, based in Vancouver with editions circulating across Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton and aboard VIA Rail. Union Jack features lifestyle, entertainment and events content, along with current affairs and business commentary for a general audience.
