Cynthia Lett (neé Wein) is an American etiquette and protocol consultant, internationally recognized social and business etiquette expert, international business meetings planner, coach and author. The founder and owner of the Lett Group: an etiquette learning and training organization that was founded in 1983. Lett is the executive director of [http://ispep.org/ International Society of Protocol & Etiquette Professionals (ISPEP)]. She is also the author of number of books mainly in the genre of civility and business etiquette. Early and Personal Life Cynthia Ellen Wein was born on December 24, 1957 in Takoma Park, Maryland, to Arthur Benjamin Wein (father) and Marylouise Barker Wein (mother). Cynthia has been married to Gerald Lee Lett since 1991. They have a son (Cameron Barker Wein Lett, born in 1997), a stepson (Jonathan Clark Lett, d.2006), a stepdaughter (Sara Alexandra Lett Mulhall) and a grandson (Connor Joseph Mulhall, born in 2002). Education After graduating from Holton-Arms School (Bethesda, MD), Lett attended Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. She received a BS in Restaurant, Hotel & Institutional Management and a BA in Public Relations with minor in Interpersonal Communications in 1979. After graduation, Lett received a Master of Legal Studies (MLS) from Antioch School of law in 1983. Then she received a Certificate in Adult Learning Techniques from George Washington University, Washington, DC. Career After graduating from college, she worked in hotel sales for several years for many reputable hotels including Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Hilton international, Sheraton Corporation, the Fairfax Hotel (Washington DC), and Hyatt. She then decided to build on the sales and public relations experience she had gained to start her own international meetings planning business. It was the first independent international meeting planning organization in the USA, the first such company owned by a woman. The business focused on planning international meetings for US organizations and companies. The nature of the business allowed her to travel around the world, planning business meetings for US companies in more than 100 countries. In 1990, Ms. Lett planned and executed the first American Small Business Mission to the USSR. The 27 small businesses met with Russian businesses, Chambers of Commerce and Cooperatives with the purpose of producing a joint venture between them. This was the first of its kind mission from the United States and between the USSR. The press covered the mission in the Wall Street Journal and Entrepreneur Magazine. She then worked locally with US companies with the goal to teach Americans in America the principles of international protocol and business etiquette. Since then she has been teaching the rules of international protocol, business and social etiquette in many companies, universities, high schools, and conventions, both inside and outside America. In 2002, Cynthia Lett founded the International Society of Protocol & Etiquette Professionals. Ms. Lett served as Chief of Protocol for MCI Telecommunications for several years. Additionally, she served as Director of Great Inns of America, a membership association of luxury inns and historic hotels. In this capacity she wrote the guidelines for evaluating country inns and historic hotels for the American Automobile Association (AAA) and Mobil Travel Guides. She also wrote several guide books for country inns travelers in North America.
