Cymbiotic were originally formed in December 2002. After doing quite well for a while with some well received demos (including national press and BBC Radio 1 airplay) and gigs all over the UK, the band hit injury problems and eventually ended up taking a long hiatus throughout 2007. The band entered Serafina Studios, Eastbourne in April 2009 to record the apocalyptic concept mini-album ‘Perpetual Devolution’. This is definitely the case on opener 'As We Meet...', a track bolstered by an amazing eastern-tinged guitar refrain. They sound less sure when attempting slower passages such as on 'The Great Divide'. Keyboard squirks and squonks add an industrial layer reminiscent of Fear Factory and the whole thing is ably underpinned by Kevin Hall's demonic drumming. A close contender for demo of the month." Rating :: 8/10 © Metal Hammer 2005 Gigs Unlimited "Cymbiotic are an accomplished five piece metal band, and this three track E.P is a fine indication of their potential. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they get signed on the strength of these tracks alone. E.P opener 'As we meet it all begins to fail' is the musical equivalent of being smacked in the face with a baseball bat. At higher volumes your ears will really suffer, so all you moshfans out there can rejoice. Cymbiotic are incredibly heavy. The track is superb and by the end of it the listener is begging for more. The great divide' pushes the vocalist to the limit, and the rest of the band follow suit. No-one lets the band down, each and every member pulls out all the stops to make this track so good. Track three, 'Showstopper' introduces some clever guitar riffs and is easily my favourite on the E.P. Everything seems to fall into place and its clear how hard the band have worked to make this E.P sound perfect. The recording is just as good and really does the band justice. I would have liked some more tracks as three just didn’t seem enough, but I can't fault the quality of what’s on offer. This is a fine E.P from a damn good band and it is worthy of your attention." 'As We Meet...' Garageband Track of the day - 05/01/05 The Inevitable Nose "Cymbiotic make brutal and complex technical metal that sounds like Meshuggah assaulting Gojira with a pneumatic drill. There is an intensity and maturity in this ear-punishing maelstrom seldom heard in an unsigned band. This is the sound of a band at the very top of their game and with new material like this, the bar is shifted up a few notches."
