CTWUG

About
* CTWUG is Cape Town Wireless Users Group. A non-profit community wireless research network based in the residential suburbs of the mothercity Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.
* CTWUG relies on donations from it's members and rebate from suppliers to build and maintain the network. There has been issues in the past with highsite reliability where CTWUG equipment was mounted on shared masts and was taken down by WISP owners.
* CTWUG regularly hold meetings and other social functions.
* The Wireless Access Providers’ Association (WAPA) acknowledges CTWUG as one of it's non-profit members.
* CTWUG users IRC as it's main form of communication, most members speak Afrikaans on the IRC channel.

History
CTWUG was started in 2006 by Grant Delaney and some others in the northern Cape Town area. CTWUG pioneerd the idea of the donation system to build and fund wugs - by listing all the items needed to upgrade a highsite on a website and then letting members pledge money towards those items. This idea and system was then adopted by Ptawug and later by Jawug.

Collaboration
CTWUG works with and connects to the LOEM (LAN of Extraordinary Men) network that is primarily located in the southern suburbs. CTWUG also communicate with Ptawug and Jawug, the two major networks in Gauteng.

Infrastructure
* All the CTWUG base stations make use of Mikrotik routerboards or routerPCs.
* CTWUG mainly makes use of the 5.8ghz public spectrum to establish links between highsites. Most highsites link to at least 2 other highsites to ensure redundancy.
* OSPF routing and the 172.18.x.x IP-range is used on CTWUG.
* CTWUG encourages it's members to connect to each other to build a large mesh network, rather than all users connecting to highsites.
* Each highsite has a responsible person that oversees the upgrading of the site and the normal operation thereof.

Organizational Structure
CTWUG has a management committee which runs the network. The committee is democratically nominated and voted for by the rest of the members on the network each year.

* Chairman
* Vice-chairman
