Crispin Pailing

Revd Canon Dr Crispin Alexander Pailing is the Rector of Liverpool and Priest in Charge at Liverpool Parish Church. He was born on the 11th March 1975.
Early Life
Fr Crispin Pailing was born on 11th March 1975 in Orpington. He went to his local primary school before going to St Olave's Grammar School in Bromley. He then went on to be Assistant to a Conservative MP in 1993/4. After that, Fr Crispin went to to study Classics in which he achieved a 2:1 degree. In 2008, he completed a PhD on the work of German theologian Karl Rahner.
Ministry
Revd Crispin Pailing was then a Parish Assistant at St ï¿¼Alban's before training to be a priest at Ripon College Cuddesdon. He became a deacon in 2003 before being ordained priest by Bishop Sentamu in 2004. He became curate at All Saints' Church, Four Oaks until December 2006.
He was then installed as Vicar of . During his time there, he increased the congregation by more than three fold (from 30 to 100 every Sunday) and grew a large Sunday School (with approximately 25 each Sunday). In the busiest years, Fr Crispin took 120 funerals a year, with many at local crematoriums as well as St John's. Towards the end of his seven and a half year stay there, Revd Pailing became Area Dean of Handsworth Deanery. St John's became a popular church in his time and is still thriving today.
In June 2014, Fr Crispin Pailing was installed as Rector of Liverpool (Priest in Charge of Liverpool Parish Church)..
Canon Pailing has also organised a homelessness conference with the leaders of the city (people such as Steve Rotheram and Joe Anderson) at The Church of Our Lady and Saint Nicholas, Liverpool which finished in an unveiling of the latest Homeless Jesus sculpture.
In addition to this, he has found himself in national news for discovering a secret room in Liverpool Parish Church.
Personal Life
Having met her at Oxford, Fr Crispin married his wife, Rowena, in 2000. They have had two children: Ambrose, born in 2004, and Jerome, born in 2006. His father, James, died in 2005. Pailing was part of the group that brought Timothy Schmalz's Homeless Jesus to Liverpool.
Fr Crispin has also been significant in getting a statue to commemorate the sinking of MV Derbyshire which was unveiled by John Prescott.
Another sculpture in the churchyard is a Blitz memorial by Tom Murphy. This sculpture has now become iconic for war remembrance across the city.
