The company was originally founded in San Diego, CA in 2005 by entrepreneurs Gary Gray and Kyle Hoggat, to aggregate coupon offers, redeemable at nationally recognized merchant websites. The company launched a reward program for users, Pays-2-Share in which it shares two percent of the purchases made from the coupons to the submitter. The program allowed users to add Coupon Chief's widget on their websites and blogs. According to Epoch Times, 2012 saw 5,000 new coupons added on the website daily, which raised to 20,000 coupons during the holiday season. The company launched a program called Coupons-4-Causes in 2010 to help users in fundraising for charitable organization and donates 20% of its revenue to these organizations. CouponChief gained media attention when its rival, Coupon Cabin, filed a lawsuit against CouponChief for violating Coupon Cabin’s trademarks in 2009. Coupon Cabin settled the lawsuit on terms not to use its trademarks and coupon codes along with an undisclosed sum. Product and services Through affiliate marketing partnerships with major retailers in United States, including Amazon, Overstock.com, HP Home Store, Expedia and Best Buy, CouponChief supplies coupon codes to online users. The company's Pays-2-Share program gained popularity for being the first coupon company to launch a revenue sharing program. The first user to submit a coupon code on the website qualifies for the revenue sharing and receives payment once total accumulated commission reaches at least $25. Coupon Chief implemented a tool, called Coupon Pulse, designed to help users understand how other customers are using coupons and how users can most benefit from each other's recommendations.
