Country Game

The Country Game is an annual Australian rules football match between Australian Football League (AFL) clubs Essendon and Geelong, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Conceived of by Kevin Sheedy, the match forms part of the Country Festival, held in Yarra Park, which honours Australia's rural community.
Tom Wills Medal
Since the 2017 AFL season, a player adjudged best-on-ground in the Country Game is awarded the Tom Wills Medal, named after 19th-century star cricketer and Australian rules footballer Tom Wills, who Sheedy called "the father of our game, in many ways". Sheedy went on to say that Wills grew up in country areas in Australia, and so it was fitting that the award bore his name. The inaugural winner of the Tom Wills Medal was Essendon's Joe Daniher.
