CounterPath Corporation is a provider of Unified Communications solutions. The company's Bria VoIP softphones for desktop, tablet and mobile devices, together with Stretto Platform™ server solutions, enable operators, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and enterprises large and small around the globe to offer a seamless and unified over-the-top (OTT) communications experience across both fixed and mobile networks. Headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, CounterPath has 100 employees and annual revenue of USD $11.7 Million as of 2014. The stock was added to the TSX Venture Exchange on August 25, 2008 under the symbol CCV and graduated to the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) on August 20, 2012.
Corporate History
CounterPath Corporation was initially founded as Xten in 2002 and launched their first commercial product, the X-PRO SIP softphone in 2003.
In 2005, Xten changed their name to CounterPath Solutions.
In 2007, CounterPath Solutions revised their name to CounterPath Corporation after acquiring NewHeights Software Corporation . CounterPath further acquired BridgePort Networks and FirstHand Technologies in 2008.
In 2009, CounterPath’s X-Lite softphone reached 340,000 downloads per month. CounterPath also had a patent granted for their Network Convergence Gateway solution which allows for handoff between cellular and internet protocol telephony, giving users the ability to roam between mobile and IP networks seamlessly and handoff active calls faster.
In 2010, CounterPath had an additional patent granted for Fixed Mobile Convergence, which allows the use of a mobile number across both mobile and fixed networks to enable converged mobile and desktop communications. CounterPath also launched their Bria 3 softphone for Mac, Windows and Linux, as well as a Bria mobile application for the Apple iPhone and iPod touch and Android.
In 2011, CounterPath launched their Network Convergence Gateway (NCG) Exchange, a hosted service that enables wireline operators to deliver Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) services, including voice, Instant Messaging (IM), Voice Call Continuity (VCC) and SMS, over-the-top of mobile networks. The company also launched Bria iPad Edition, a softphone application for the Apple iPad and added Instant Message and presence functionality to their Bria iPhone Edition and Bria iPad Edition mobile softphones though an in-app Premium Feature add-on.
In 2012, CounterPath announced a commercial agreement with Rogers Communications for a service that lets Canadians use their wireless numbers to enable single-number reachability by talk and text, whether on their mobile device or computer. This service, called Rogers One Number, is the first of its kind in Canada.
In addition, CounterPath also had a patent granted for “Method and System for Extending Services to Cellular Devices” which enables enterprises to move services such as 4-digit extension dialing, ad hoc conferencing, call transfers and more, to mobile smartphones and tablets.
The company also launched Bria Android Tablet Edition, a softphone application specifically designed for Android tablet devices.
On June 29, 2012, CounterPath announced that its common stock will commence trading on the NASDAQ Capital Market as of July 11, 2012. CounterPath further announced its graduation from the TSX Venture Exchange to the Toronto Stock Exchange on August 16, 2012 with stock to commence trading on August 20, 2012.
In 2013, CounterPath launched the Bria BlackBerry® Edition, the SIP-based softphone app customized for the BlackBerry® 10 platform.
In 2013 the company also launched a new generation of softphones which featured a complete redesign and unification of the Graphical User Interface (GUI) across the entire suite of Bria desktop, tablet and mobile softphone clients.
In 2013 the company also released a new softphone Software Development Kit (SDK) for Desktop, Tablet and Mobile Platforms.

The CounterPath Stretto Platform™ is a gateway, messaging, presence and provisioning platform that enabless SMB, enterprise and operator customers to manage and enhance Unified Communications solutions and provide the best user experience for their end users. Operator OTT Solutions

CounterPath’s Cloud Solutions enable IT managers to centrally deploy and manage Bria desktop, mobile, tablet and virtual desktop softphone clients using the Stretto Platform™ Provisioning Module from the cloud.
