Cornelius Moriarty

Cornelius Moriarty (24 December 1921 - 4 August 2009) was a Welsh rugby player, trade unionist and local politician. Born in Ammanford, he played rugby for Ammanford RFC and later played for Neath RFC. He represented his region of the NUR for over 40 years and became a county councillor for the Mynyddbach area of the Morriston electoral ward in 1981. A member of a very large and politically active family, he was the nephew of Johanna Gollogly, Labour member for Greenwich region of the London County Council from 1949-55, and his first cousin was the author George Target. His daughter is the artist Elizabeth Moriarty. In his last years, he was very active in setting up and running the Morriston & District Pensioners' Association, a charity which organised social events and day trips for pensioners.
