Corey Hawtin

Corey Hawtin is a Canadian property developer. In 2021 he announced a plan to spend $1 billion of funds through his company Core Development Group to convert single-family homes in Ontario cities like Kingston, St. Catharines, London, Barrie, Hamilton, Peterborough and Cambridge into rental properties. Hawtin plans to repeat this process in Quebec, British Columbia and Atlantic Canada by 2026.
Business plan
On 16 June 2021, Hawtin revealed his business plan in a written statement to a reporter. "We chose markets where there is very little new supply, but where there is a lot of demand. Core's goal is to provide stable, secure, long-term rental properties in ground-oriented housing for those that are not in a position to buy, but do not want to be relegated to condominium rentals with limited space for themselves or their families.... We are creating new supply by renovating underutilized and underinvested houses that are geared towards accommodating a second legal and permitted unit."
