Copiun, which offers an enterprise-class software solution for distributed PC and laptop data management, backup, storage and search, was named a finalist for MIT’s Sloan CIO Symposium Innovation Showcase in April, 2010. On September 1, 2010, Copiun announced that it had secured 1.9 million in series A funding led by Hub Angels and RRE Ventures. Other investors who also participated include the company’s existing investors, Launchpad Venture Group, Beacon Angels, and Launch Capital.
The Copiun data backup and management solution uses an appliance known as the Copiun Data Manager that leverages patent-pending object-based deduplication to minimize bandwidth and storage utilization. The corresponding user agent activates when it senses the user is idle and offers no interface yet enables full-text search and recovery using the native Microsoft Windows search utility. The solution can be deployed on-premises, via Copiun cloud partner, or a hybrid of the two.
