Conservatory of the Ozarks

The Conservatory of the Ozarks is a fine arts academy located in southwest Missouri, with an enrollment of 100 students. The conservatory has two primary functions: training students and teachers and providing performance opportunities where students and teachers may share their talents with the community. The school serves as the home base for performing ensembles that include the Queen City Singers, Girls Chorale of the Ozarks, Conservatory X, Early Bird Choir, and COOL Tones. It also serves as a source of knowledge for Springfield area bands and performers, who frequently consult with faculty.<ref name=coto/>
Like other conservatories, it is a small business, but also has ties to community outreach. The school hosts small monthly community outreach performances, as well as larger community events, including a Spring Music Contest, Summer Talent Show, Fall Masquerade, and Christmas Variety Show. The school also shows off its faculty's talents each year with a Faculty Recital and Art Show. It was nominated for Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award in 2009.<ref name=coto/>
The Conservatory offers an apprenticeship program for music majors pursuing a teaching degree; this allows future teachers to complete their student teaching and pedagogy training at the conservatory while pursuing their bachelor's degree. The school requires its instructors to have an accredited bachelor’s degree in his or her field.<ref name=coto/>
