The Evergreen/Conifer Tea Party was founded by an Evergreen, Colorado couple in April 2009, as part of the national Tea Party movement, and grew to a membership of almost 300 members in its first year. The group is a non-partisan grassroots organization promoting individual freedoms and liberties which supports the U.S. Constitution, private property, free markets and free speech. It has risen to national prominence as a successful, local tea party and was asked to present at the first National Tea Party Convention in Nashville in February 2010. The group has also received considerable local, national, and international media coverage. The grassroots organization holds monthly meetings with speakers such as The Blueprint author Rob Witwer, local state legislators, political candidates, and former elected officials like Tom Tancredo.
