Matthew Nye, of Melbourne, Florida, was elected National Treasurer of the Republican Liberty Caucus at the organization's National Convention in Arlington, Virginia on February 15, 2011. The Republican Liberty Caucus is a political action organization dedicated to promoting the ideals of individual liberty, limited government and free market economics within the Republican Party in the United States. It is in the libertarian wing of the Republican Party. Nye has been active in Florida's Tea Party movement, and has led the Brevard County Tea Party group. A self-proclaimed "Watchdog" for Brevard County, Nye has worked on exposing government waste. He is also a regular guest in the "Bill Mick Live" show on Florida's WMMB talk-radio station where he will often address national, state, and local issues on taxation, government spending, and politics. Mick and Nye promote Tea Party efforts together, sponsoring a yearly cruise trip for Tea Party members. Nye was a candidate for Brevard County Commissioner in 2010.
