Compatible Systems

Compatible Systems (based in the United States) was originally a Macintosh software and hardware developer, but became a virtual private networking company. It was acquired by Cisco Systems on January 19, 2000. The product line developed by Compatible Systems became the Cisco VPN 5000 Series, and was not considered a commercial success. On February 25, 2002, Cisco announced the end-of-sale and end-of-life of the VPN 5000 series, advising customers using the remote-access functionality to move to the VPN 3000 Series product line (based on products from Altiga Networks) and customers using site-to-site functionality to move to the IOS-based product line.
