Eze Jonathan Nwogu, better known by his stage name Colo Bondz is a Nigerian-American hip-hop and R & B artist and songwriter currently residing in the Washington Metropolitan Area in the United States. Early Life Originally born in Nigeria, his family relocated to New York City when he was a young child. Always having the knack for writing rhymes, poetry and performing the arts, he decided to pursue his talent at the age of 16. Growing up, his friends started calling him "Bondz," comparing him to British action hero James Bond, citing that he is "versatile and unpredictable…they would say one minute am here the next am there.". Life of Tragedies He has faced many personal tragedies, losing his best friend, the victim of a drive-by shooting in California, the death of his God-sister from Sickle Cell complications and the death of his close friend and very first DJ. Colo Bondz has used his survival through all these tragedies as a sign to his upcoming success in his passion for music. He often talks about most of these personal tragedies in songs like “Ghetto Boy”, “I’m still Here”, “Soldier” and “I’m a man”. In the midst of recording new songs for his first EP, he was going through the difficult period of his brother's court trial and put the project on hold. He is currently about to release the revised version of that particular EP in the late summer of 2009.<ref name="interview"/> Early Career Since 2003, he has released over 10 mixtapes/albums locally. Colo got his start in the entertainment business by doing street team promotions for New York's urban radio station WBLS, alongside a few of his friends. There he learned the ropes of promoting and marketing, the hard way, by making tons of mistakes and being surrounded by an inexperienced team. He began recording his first mixtape while still doing radio promotions for the company and continued to steadily release music on the underground circuit. He has since performed on the east coast, from New York and has opened up for rappers in the likes of Roc-A-Fella artist Freeway and Bad Boy’s “Da Band”. Charity Initiatives Colo Bondz has a passion to be able to give back to communities through his performances and music lyrics. After his past experiences and tragedies, he began assisting community organizations and individuals including Prevention Works DC, Syeida Penn of Pastiche Group LLC and Ike Nwaneri, a young Washington DC marketer, through the “Don’t Guess, Get Tested” HIV Awareness initiative in Washington DC to spread the word on HIV testing and prevention. He plans to use his music as a creative method to increase such awareness due to the large radio and music listening community in the tri-state area. This is an initiative he plans to take to his home country Nigeria in West Africa as well. He is also planning to gather as much canned and packaged food and financial contributions for “Bread for the City” Feed-the-Hunger initiative through the Fall of 2009 as this is a growing crisis in the Washington DC Southeast inner city region. Current Projects Currently, Colo Bondz is working on his new untitled EP in late summer 2009, which will feature all original production, lead by the single "Make It Hot" and the song "Red Carpet" featuring fellow Nigerian artists ND and Matt Sesso. A portion of the proceeds from the album will be donated to "Bread for the City," an organization based in Washington, D.C., dedicated to alleviated the hunger crisis in the area. He is also working with Washington D.C.-based Prevention-Works, assisting th eorganizatoin directly and through his music in educating the community on HIV prevention.
