Claire Fitzpatrick

Claire Fitzpatrick (born 19 June, 1991, Kogarah, Australia) is an Australian journalist, poet, and author of speculative fiction. She writes horror, science fiction, historical fiction, as well as non-fiction articles for Aurealis.
Career
Fitzpatrick's first poem 'Rainbows' was Commended in the 2003 Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards. Her first novel 'Only The Dead' was accepted by The Zharmae Publishing Press. After the publisher went into liquidation, Fitzpatrick set up an independent publisher Oscillate Wildly Press in 2016 to release the novel. Only The Dead was published in 2016.
Fitzpatrick is also the author of the horror novella, Of Man And Woman, self-published in 2016.
Her articles 'Why Do People Like Horror Movies,' 'Dark Fantasy Versus Horror: Why Are Their Differences Important? And Which Genre Should You Introduce to Your Children First?', and 'Body Horror And The Horror Aesthetic' were all nominated for the 2016 Aurealis Convenors Award For Excellence. Her short story Madeline (first published in Midnight Echo Issue 11) was included within Dead Of Night: Best Of Midnight Echo, winner of the 2016 Australian Shadows Awards Best Edited Works.
In May 2016, Fitzpatrick was a panellist at the After Dark: Contemporary Monsters talk at the Arts Centre, Gold Coast. In June 2017, she was a panellist for Continuum 13 in Melbourne, Australia, on 'Horror in the 21st Century' with Jason Franks, Michelle Goldsmith, and Kirstyn McDermott, and 'Saving the Future with Science Fiction' with Nuke, El Naismith, and Rachel Nightingale.
Performance art
Fitzpatrick was a performing member of Velvet Helmet, a Brisbane Berlin-1920’s-esque kabaret, burlesque, comedy, poetry, performance arts, visual arts, theatre, comedy, circus, dance, music troupe. She performed in three shows: Who. Is. Motown, Trick Or Treat, and A Mid-Winter’s Night Dream. Velvet Helmet disbanded in 2016.
