Chuck Thomsen

Chuck Thomsen is the Republican candidate running for Oregon State Senate in the 26th Senate District. His opponent is Brent Barton of the Democratic party.
He is a fourth generation orchardist from Hood River. He grew up here and graduated from Hood River High School in 1975, then went on to attend Willamette University in Salem, OR.
Personal Life
After earning his degree in Political Science and Economics, Chuck returned to his hometown where he continued his family’s legacy of growing some of the world’s best pears and apples in rural Hood River County. As an orchardist, he learned the value of hard work, a dedication to his community, and the importance of remaining honest and trustworthy in all his endeavors.
While working in Hood River, he met his wife Kristi, and they have been married for nearly 29 years. He has two grown daughters, Meagan (an OB nurse at Providence Hood River), and Mallory (works in health care in Arizona). The Thomsens continue to own and operate Thomsen Orchards Inc., one of the largest pear orchards in the northern portion of the state.
Chuck has been a volunteer firefighter with the Pine Grove Fire Department for over 29 years. In addition, he has been active with youth sports and civic groups across the spectrum. He has coached his daughters’ softball and basketball teams, coached Little League, and been an OSAA basketball referee for 19 years. Chuck has been a past Rotary President and been active with too many community groups and associations to list.
Political History
He was appointed to serve on the Hood River Planning Commission in 1990 where he served 4 years before running for Hood River County Commission in 1994. Since first being elected, Chuck has served as a Hood River County Commissioner for 16 years. With the combined hard work of his colleagues on the Commission, Chuck has been instrumental in bringing jobs and protecting business in their county.
Chuck is running to be a “citizen legislator”, not a “career politician”. If elected, he plans approach every challenge from the perspective of “what is best for the people he represents” and will not be clouded by personal ambition or self-interest.
