Bob Horning

Bob Horning is the Republican candidate running for Oregon State Senate in the 16th Senate District. His opponent is Betsy Johnson of the Democratic party.
Horning was born and raised north of North Plains, Oregon on a small cattle ranch. There he farmed, grew hay, raised cattle, logged, and generally worked the land. In his childhood he also traveled all over NW Oregon salmon fishing with his dad, enjoying everything Oregon had to offer.
Personal Life
During the 1980s he gradually transformed his family farm to a park, raising fish for trout fishing, doing guided trail rides and building a saw mill where he taught himself to cut lumber. All of this work gave him real-world experience and a thorough understanding of healthy land, forest and wildlife management. He also worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier.
Political Background
In the early 1990's He started getting involved more in state and local issues and have since then spent quite a bit of time working behind the scenes. One of the trends he noticed is the transformation of how special interests work in Salem. It used to be that special interests worked "with" the legislature, pushing for their interests, of course. Now He believes, it has evolved to a point where many legislators are catering to and doing the bidding of special interests instead of working for the interests of the general public and the good of Oregon.
