Bishop Christodoulos Sabbatos (or Savvatos) -born Athens suburb of Peristeri, 1961- is a leading professor (Dogmatics) in the Theology Faculty of the University of Athens. He has earned degrees from Rome and Strasbourg. In mid 2007 he was consecrated bishop of Messenia (see city Kalamata) in the Peloponnese but continues also to fulfil the obligations of his university chair. Earlier in 2008 he took part in the Ravenna conversation of the Orthodox-Roman Catholic Dialogue Commission, of which he has been for some time a member. Mgr. Sabbatos has recently criticised Seraphim, the Metropolitan of Piraeus' hostility to Pope Benedict XVI' visit to Cyprus.
