Christine Innes (b. 1961 in Stratford, Ontario, Canada), is a lawyer and the Liberal Party of Canada's candidate for the riding of Trinity-Spadina in the Canadian Federal Election, 2008.
Innes is "a former aide to provincial Liberal Greg Sorbara and ex-federal MP Jim Peterson" .
Personal
Innes was raised on a farm near Stratford, Ontario and moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1985. She graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1990. Innes is the wife of Tony Ianno, who held the Trinity-Spadina riding from 1993-2006, and has lived in the riding since 1988. Christine and Tony have four children.
Politics and Community Work
Innes was an advisor to Liberal Party of Canada MP Jim Peterson from 1980 to 1984. She then worked as an advisor to Liberal Party of Ontario's MPP and cabinet minister Greg Sorbara from 1985 to 1987. She has been active in the Liberal Party since 1983 and in particular helped run her husband's five campaigns since 1988.
She is a member of the Annex Residents' Association and is the Co-Chair of the local farmer's market, My Market@Bloor.Borden. Innes also does outreach and fundraising for the Alexandra Park Community Centre, is an executive in the Parent's Association at her children's school, and a volunteer at St. Francis' Church.
Innes' selection as the candidate for Trinity-Spadina was announced at a press conference on September 5, 2008 by Liberal Party of Canada Deputy Leader Michael Ignatieff and MPs Bob Rae and Carolyn Bennett.
