Chris McCoy

Christopher William McCoy (born November 6, 1984 in Overland Park, Kansas) is a former walk-on basketball player at North Carolina State University. He is best known for coming up with the idea behind the Krispy Kreme Challenge, an annual charity race in Raleigh, North Carolina.
High school
Attended in Louisiville, Kentucky where he played tennis and basketball and ran cross-country and track. He was a two-time state-runner up doubles player, earning all-state recognition both years, and won the 2003 Sportsmanship Award in tennis. He was also a top runner in the state with a career best 15:56 over a 5K course and an 11th place finish in the 2001 KHSAA AAA state cross-country meet. In 2003, he was named a member of the Kentucky All-Star basketball team, a team of seniors that plays a two-game series against Indiana seniors.
College
Walked-on the North Carolina State University Wolfpack basketball team in 2003. He played in the 2003-2004 and 2005-2006 seasons before transferring to Pomona College, where he played basketball for the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens for a semester. He returned to NC State in January 2007 and graduated that spring.
In 2003, McCoy came up with the idea for the Krispy Kreme Challenge. This annual race is held in Raleigh, North Carolina and has been featured in Sports Illustrated on Campus, the Associated Press, and on ESPN. The race in 2009 drew 5519 participants and raised over $35,000 for the N.C. Children's Hospital.
Post-college
Currently in medical school at the University of Louisville.
