Chris Daniel

Christopher A. "Chris" Daniel (born 1982) is an American engineer who is the District Clerk of Harris County, Texas, United States. He defeated Democrat Loren Jackson in the general election on November 2, 2010. He won the March 2010 primary, coming in first in an initially three-way primary. The Harris County District Attorney position became open after Charles Bacarrise resigned to run for County Judge. Jackson had initially won the unexpired term during the 2008 presidential elections, losing in turn during 2010 general elections.
Biography
Daniel, a graduate of the University of Texas and South Texas College of Law, was first elected as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2004 as on of the youngest Texas Delegates, Daniel then went on to become one of the youngest elected officials in Texas by defeating the board chair of Lone Star College--then known as North Harris Montgomery Community College District--in 2006 to become Trustee Position 2. In 2008 Mr. Daniel again was elected as a delegate from Texas to the 2008 National Convention, which in turn was followed by his election to the Harris County District Clerk's Office in November 2010 over the incumbent.
As Trustee for Lone Star College, Chris Daniel contributed to the name change from North Harris Montgomery Community College District (NHMCCD) to Lone Star College.. While on the board, this system also opened its doors to a multi-university system where students gain their associates degree downstairs and then proceed upstairs to finish the remainder of a four year degree from several partner State University Systems.
The District Clerk office is over the summoning of prospective jurors for 74 courts. Juries are drawn from a jury wheel, which consists of names of registered voters and/or holders of a Texas driver's license or identification card.
The District Clerk's Office is responsible for custodial care and safekeeping of all court records for 59 District Courts and 15 County Criminal Courts located in Harris County. In conjunction with its court duties, the office also accounts for all monies paid as deposits on civil cases (causes) awaiting disposition and all funds awarded minors in court action that are paid into the court registry.
In addition, the Harris County District Clerk has the responsibility of providing customer service to all child support cases (causes) heard in Harris County.
As District Clerk, Chris Daniel has overseen the continual progression of electronic judicial courts in Harris County. He has also overseen the expansion of the Jury Assembly Room for the County and District Courts.
A Native Houstonian, Chris Daniel was born to Hugh and Jolie Daniel at Herman Hospital in Houston on March 4, 1982. He is the Grandson of a Baptist Minister from North Little Rock, Arkansas and of a Dutch WW2 Vet and Government Official from Holland.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Chris earned his degree in mechanical engineering. As an engineer, Chris designed oilfield tool and managing projects and served as Project Manager in the Tubing Division and Research Project Manager in the Drill Pipe Division of National Oilwell Varco.
Chris attended Night Law School at the South Texas College of Law, where he became involved in Intellectual Property and Patent Law and served as Nighttime Student Senator and Senior Student Senator of Student Government.
Chris is a member of Second Baptist Church of Houston and is an Eagle Scout. He volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Houston Food Bank, Target Hunger and Rotary. He is a Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and is a member of the Gatekeeper and the Lamb and Goat Auction committees.
Chris Daniel has one sibling, Alyson Daniel who currently lives in Los Angeles as an actress.
