Cheryl Marie Cordeiro was Singapore's delegate to the international Miss Universe pageant in 1999, held in Trinidad and Tobago. In 1999 she held the title of Miss Singapore Universe and also won the subsidiary title of "Body Beautiful" in the local contest. She played the role of "Stephanie" in the Singapore English sit-com, "Brand New Towkay" which ran on Channel 5 in 2002. Cheryl Marie became widely recognized in Singapore's national press as "The Beauty with Brains" since, in addition to winning the 1999 Miss Singapore Universe pageant, she successfully pursued two separate Masters Degrees at the time, whilst studying French as a third language. In 2000/2001, she graduated with two separate Masters Degrees from Asia's top ranking universities as cited by Times Higher Education. The first degree was a Master of Art in the English Language from the National University of Singapore and the second was a Master of Science in Information Studies from the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. Cheryl Marie is a Eurasian Singaporean of Chinese (Hakka) and Portuguese descent. As a little girl, Cheryl Marie was already modelling for Singapore Metro, McDonald's and Nintendo. She studied for her at CHIJ Katong Convent, an all-girls missionary school, which she attended from age 7 to when she became 16 years old. She then went to Victoria Junior College, Singapore's second top ranking junior college at the time back in 1991/92, after Raffles Junior College in Singapore for her before starting her tertiary education in Singapore. While in Singapore, she participated in the Eurasian Association Mentorship Programme. She has been living in Sweden since 2002, where she has pursued her academic interest in applied linguistics, critical linguistics and visual semiotics in cross-cultural, international business contexts. She received a Research Funding Scholarship from the Anna Ahrenbergs Foundation while pursuing her PhD at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Gothenburg. The title of her Doctoral thesis is "Swedish management in Singapore: a discourse analysis study". The Public Defence of her thesis was held with success on the 9 May 2009 at 6 Olofwijksgatan, Gothenburg, Sweden, and she has since graduated with a PhD in the field of general linguistics from the University of Gothenburg. Cheryl Marie is currently a Research Fellow at the School of Business, Economics and Law and the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She is also part of a larger international research team at the School of Business, Stockholm University, studying the conceptual paradigm of organizational culture. Apart from her professional interests, she keeps a blog on general lifestyle, writing in range from academic topics to more light hearted topics in her blog. She has also written articles for the University of Gothenburg's journal, GU Journalen. In 2011, Cheryl Marie was at the University of Navarra in Barcelona, Spain with the International Faculty Program (IFP) at IESE Business School. The IFP is a four week residential course designed for faculty members of business schools worldwide and has as its overall aim, to improve international standards on the qualtiy of management education. Professionally, she is known as Dr. Cheryl Marie Cordeiro.
