Charles Darku

Charles Ayesu Darku is a Ghanaian businessman and engineer who was managing director of Tullow Oil Ghana Ltd,the largest subsidiary of Tullow Oil plc in terms of production,between 2013 and 2018. Darku was formerly chief executive officer of the Ghana Grid Company (Gridco) from September 2009 to 2013
Early life and education
Darku was educated at Accra Academy for his secondary education from 1970 to 1977. Darku obtained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 1982.
Career
He worked with the Volta River Authority upon completion of his undergraduate degree. On leave, he proceeded to Harvard University as a Henry Mason Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School graduating with a Masters in Public Administration in 1996. Thereafter, he resumed work the Volta River Authority. Darku was responsible for switching on the generator at the Authority. He held several senior management positions in the Volta River Authority, including Director, Management Information Systems, with responsibility for IT strategy and deployment and Director of New Business Ventures, where he spearheaded negotiations, arrangements and structuring for setting up Ghana's first independent power producer, Takoradi International Company (TICO).

In 2009, the decision was taken to separate the power distribution arm of the Volta River Authority from the power generating arm. The Power distribution arm of the company became a new state corporation under the new name ,the Ghana Grid Company(GridCo) and Darku was appointed to be the Chief Executive of the new company. In addition to being chief executive officer ,he was Director of System Operation at GridCo.
He served as Chief Executive of Ghana Grid Company Limited from 2009 to 2013.

In August 2013, he became the managing director of Tullow Oil Ghana Ltd.

Darku is a Fellow of the Ghana Institution of Engineers and currently Vice President of the Association of Ghana Industries.
