Born & brought up in Mumbai, Chaitanya underwent his schooling at Bombay Scottish School followed by a Bachelors of Commerce degree at Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics.
In college, he was heavily involved in the multiple extra curricular activities that Sydenham had to offer. Also, while in college, he joined Indian Express as a Staff Writer and was part of the team that launched a special youth-centric section at Indian Express - Channel Y. While being part of the launch team, he also contributed by writing film reviews, book reviews, event reviews and articles on current-affairs and social & youth issues.
Having won several awards for academic, co-curricular & extra-curricular activities in school & college, he was accepted into Arthur Andersen & Associates in 1998 in the Business Advisory & Audit division. Despite having an inclination and performing well at Andersen, his interests lay outside the field of consulting, accounting & audit.
He then switched verticals to the then-emerging field of Event Management. As founding member & Head of Production at Groove Temple Entertainment, he undertook a wide range of events for organizations like Citigroup, Warburg Pincus, Hard Rock Café, The Art of Living, and many more. It was during this stint that Groove Temple specialised in entertainment consulting & customer relationship management strategy for ‘high-value-low-volume' brands.
In 2006, he joined as Marketing Manager at Whistling Woods International - Institute for Film Communication & Media Arts. Over the next 2 years, he undertook marketing activities, go-to-market strategies, brand-building campaigns, alliances & affiliations & student acquisition activities over the startup years of Whistling Woods International. During the same period he also acquired a deep understanding of the Media & Entertainment industry - especially the Film, TV, Animation & digital media industries.
In early 2008, with the WWI brand having been established well & the marketing strategy having stabilized, it was time to take the Business plan of the organisation forward. Which is when he took on the Business Development role, with his key responsibility being to grow the size of the education business of the group - both in terms of depth and spread. Over the recent past, WWI has expanded its Film & Media Education footprint, entered into several academic & technology-focused institutional affiliations, both in India and globally. The education business has also grown with Whistling Woods expanding its education portfolio significantly by launching India’s first undergraduate degrees in Filmmaking, India’s first MBA in Media & Entertainment in addition to a bachelors program in Media & Communication, a School of Fashion, a School of Music & a School of Design. Whistling Woods has also forayed into pioneering efforts in High School Media Education and Continuing Education for Media Professionals and has launched its e-learning portal.
Further, in 2010, when the group was keen to foray into Animation & VFX, he played a role in the acquisition of a significant minority stake in Maya Digital Studios Pvt Ltd. by Mukta Arts Ltd. and was nominated on the Board of Directors of Maya Digital Studios Private Limited as a representative of Mukta Arts.
In early 2015, he was also appointed Vice President - Strategy of Mukta Arts Limited.
At present, he the Vice President and Business Head of the Education & Digital Media divisions of Mukta Arts apart from being the Vice President - Business Development & Chief Technology Officer of Whistling Woods International.
He also teaches Content Creation for Digital Platforms at Whistling Woods International. He is also a YouTube certified ‘Audience Growth’ expert and has created the curriculum for the first full-fledged credit-course in ‘Content Creation, Audience Development and Monetisation for Youtube’.
He is an active speaker at seminars & conferences organised by FICCI, NASSCOMM, CII and ASSOCHAM speaking on multiple topics related to Education and the Film, Media & Entertainment industries.
He is an avid reviewer and has developed a robust following on several social media platforms.
