Cecil Cooney

Cecil Cooney, born Randolph Cecil Cooney; (11 September 1906 at Ravenswood, Queensland, a gold mining town in North Queensland, Australia — died 12 September 1993 at Tadworth, Surrey, England), was a camera operator/cinematographer. His sister was Mavis Villiers, an actress.
Cecil migrated to the United States with his family in 1921, aged 15. The family settled in Hollywood, where his father, John, became a technician at a film company. Both Cecil and his sister Mavis began their careers in the silent era; his first professional accreditation was as a 'camera assistant' on Tell it to the Marines 1926, starring Lon Chaney. Following his parents divorce, his mother Clara and sister Mavis migrated to London, England, in 1933. Cecil followed soon after; his father remained in California where he died at Ventura in 1960. His first accreditation in a UK produced film, was 'camera operator' on The Secret of the Loch 1934.
