Cawiar is a youthful choir which was founded in Porvoo, Finland in 2006. Right from the start the conductor of the choir has been Camilla Wiksten-Rönnbacka. In the beginning there were only 15 singers but nowadays it has round thirty singers. In the spring of 2010 Cawiar sold out two concerts and got excellent reviews in the media. After that the choir has been noted to as Porvoo's most rock choir. Since 2010 the choir has continued to develop its repertoire in other music styles as well. The choir is a course in "Borgå medborgarinstitut", Porvoo's adult education centre.
History
Cawiar is a youthful choir which was founded in Porvoo, Finland in 2006 by Camilla Wiksten-Rönnbacka. In the beginning there were only 15 singers and its repertoire consisted of traditional choir music both in Swedish and in English. In the spring of 2010 Cawiar sold out two concerts named "Rock this town" and got excellent reviews in the media. As a guest in the concert was MIM choir from Kruunupyy, Finland.
In 2011 Cawiar continued rocking in Southern Finland and the gigs were sold out. Even in Vaasa choir festival the choir with black clothes and rock accessory created attention and interest with its untraditional choir music. The choir had grown to over 30 singers and held two Christmas concerts in the Small Chirch of Porvoo. Both concerts were again sold out.

In the spring of 2012 arranged Cawiar an even bigger concert "Get ready to rock" in the brand new Artfactory and had the honour of being the first ones on the scene. The totally renewed rock repertoire got a little extra spice from a guest choir Cajorna from Raasepori, Finland. There were almost 580 people listening to the choir and the concert was again sold out.
In 2013 the choir decided to test something a little bit different and held a Eurovision song contest inspired concert in Porvoo. The choir changed black leather and rock to glitter and glamour and performed popular Eurovision song contest songs for almost 850 people as their public.

The choir went abroad to Tuscany, Italy in June 2014 and held two concerts in Montecatini Terme. In 2014 and 2015 has the choir arranged smaller concerts and Show&dinner events for its true fans.
Cawiar has come a long way from traditional choir singing in 2006 to sold out concerts in 2015. The ambition and motivation to develop is great within the choir and its conductor Camilla Wiksten-Rönnbacka who is now a trained teacher in Complete Vocal Technique can lead the way.
Conductor
Cawiar's conductor has been right from the start in 2006 Camilla Wiksten-Rönnbacka. She is has much experience in the music branch, she has graduated as cantor, a music pedagog and an authorised Complete Vocal Technique teacher as well as a singer herself. Camilla has developed the choir extremely in technique and style and has encouraged the choir to try new and even unconventional things in music.
Upcoming events
The year 2016 is a year of celebration as the choir turns 10 years and in April the choir is going to arrange a concert called "Love to rock". The repertoire consist of songs along the choir's history, everything from traditional choir songs to Eurovision songs and rock. As a guest star in the concert is going to be Lee Angel.
