Catcam

A CatCam is a camera affixed to a collar of a cat. The camera is set to automatically take photos at preset intervals. The goal behind the CatCam is to peek into the life of a cat. Cats often wander around; no one knows what they do all day long. The CatCam will open this closed door to the owner.

The original CatCam is based on an inexpensive digital camera from VistaQuest. An added microcontroller is is used to control the automated picture-taking. The microcontroller is a camera hack, but together with the innovative use it made this project more famous than was intended.

The CatCam was invented by Juergen Perthold who first came up with the idea, modification instructions, and real-life pictures from his cat's journeys.

Between June 2 and June 5 2007, the online world focused on his CatCam project. The original web page went down after more than 350,000 page hits in a few hours.

Mr. Lee, the developers cat, became an internet phenomenon overnight.
