Common Admission Test 2009 was an entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management as a Computer Based Test, unlike the written test in the previous years. Prometric had been entrusted with the task of conducting CAT 2009. Around 300,000 students were expected to write the online CAT in 2009 The exam was conducted for a period of 10 days between 28th Nov 2009 & 7th Dec 2009 (including both the days). Test takers were allowed to opt for the morning or afternoon session based on their convenience. How to Apply Candidates need to buy a Scratch Voucher from the designated Bank branches. They can then register online on the official CAT Website . The instructions for the registration & application process can be found on the CAT Website while the Vouchers will provide further details regarding Online Access. After the candidate submits the registration details, the Admit Card will be sent via e-mail. The Test Fee is Rs 1400 for General Category & Rs 700 for Scheduled castes and scheduled tribes candidates. Important Dates Sunday, 30 August 2009: CAT website will put up all the required details. Results If the conduct of the tests were a trailer, the whole movie was the results. The results baffled one and all including the most seasoned and experienced CAT takers. No marking scheme was declared prior to the exam and it remained undeclared even after the results. The absolute marks of all students were also not declared. And Prometric just put a disclaimer claiming that the normalized marks were arrived at by some Psychometric analysis. They also stated that the Psychometric equivalence was necessary because questions across various slots were not of the same difficulty level contradicting the earlier statements of the CAT convenor Professor Satish Deodhar and a statement released by the IIM's that questions across all slots were of same difficulty level. There were beneficiaries of this kind of process adopted by the IIM's.But lots of extremely talented students suffered as a consequence.A peculiar trend was observed after the results wherein many students scored extremely high in two sections and abnormally low in the third one-which was not necessarily VA at all times. Legal Protest Against the CAT 2009 Protest Against CAT 2009 is a legal protest against the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2009 convened by IIM Ahmedabad. During CAT 2009, the examinees faced various technical glitches which affected them both positively (extra time) and negatively (panic, frustration etc.). Hence, a protest has been organized by the CAT test takers, wherein all the affected candidates, future CAT aspirants, and concerned citizens can join to challenge CAT 2009 under the court of law. A SLP is in the process of being filed in The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India.
