Carolyn Seaman

Carolyn Seaman is a Nigerian social entrepreneur. She is founder and creative director of the Girls Voices Initiative, a non-profit advocacy organization that is part of Techwomen, a United States government initiative.
In 2016 Seaman won the World Pulse Prize for promoting and amplifying the voice of women. Seaman led a radio and social media campaign called Make Girls Voices Count. The campaign used stories and animations to engage adolescent girls and teach them "to use their voices to influence their lives," Seaman said. Prize winners were honored at the United States Embassy in Nigeria, where Seaman was recognized for her use of technology to empower young women.
Seaman participated in the 2017 TechWomen exchange program, and the Girls Voices Initiative is now part of TechWomen. TechWomen is a U.S. mentorship initiative that brings women from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) backgrounds to visit Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay Area of California.
Advocacy
Seaman has worked to teach young girls and women how to use the internet to unify their voices. She aims to encourage internet use, video technology, and digital technology tools for social development which promotes women and girls in STEM. Seaman served as a Volunteer Mentor with Intel and as a World Pulse Global Community member to Connect Project. Both programs seek to give young women (18-25 years old) access to and empowerment through digital technologies.
