Carolyn Nelson Sargent

Carolyn Nelson Sargent is the actress who played Yeoman (Doris Atkins) in the Star Trek: Original Series- episodes, i.e. “The Deadly Years”. She also worked in the “Beverly Hillbillies” “Red Skelton Show”, “Lucille Ball Show”, “Run for Your Life” with Ben Gazzara, “It Takes a Thief” with Robert Wagner and the Chrysler Playhouse with Ralph Bellamy, Clair Bloom and Maximillian Schell and numerous commercials. She married famed film and television director Joseph Sargent in 1970.
Also included are the acclaimed (1974) film “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three” featuring Walter Matthau and such made-for-television movies as “Man on a String” (1972) with William Shallert, James Sikking, Garry Walberg and Byron Morrow. “The Marcus Nelson Murders” (1973) with Telly Savalas, “Memorial Day” (1983) with Mike Farrell and Bert Remsen and “The Last Elephant” (1990) with John Lithgow, Isabella Rosselli, James Earl Jones.
Nelson retired from acting to found the Free Arts Clinic for Abused Children in 1975 winning the US Magazine Frontrunner award in 1980 for her ground breaking contributions. The media attention as a result of the FAC events, concerts and celebrity appearances on talk shows and PSAs put the prevention of child abuse onto an international stage of awareness. FAC provides abused or at risk children with all form of the arts. It is now know nationally as Free Arts. She was president and director of the organization for 14 years.
She is notable in her community for putting together numerous benefits and laying the groundwork for Malibu Citihood, The Deaf West Theatre , and Award Productions for the American Film Institute Affiliates for Walter Matthau and Jane Fonda. She is a food writer with a column on great chefs for Single Living Magazine as she traveled with her husband who continues to direct award winning television movies for HBO as well as other specials.
