The film premiered at the Friday Harbor Film Festival on San Juan Island in Washington near where the young airplane thief began his crimes. The film won in the category of "Explorers and Adventurers" and then the film was showcased at the Bahamas International Film Festival, where the 'barefoot bandit' gained notoriety as well, after being detained in 2010.
