Carl Edwin Lindgren is a historian and humanitarian. Life and Education Lindgren was born in a small mining town in southwest Virginia on the 20th of November 1949. His family originally came from Sweden to the US in the late 19th century. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1972 with a B.A.E. Later he received his M.Ed in history and education. In 1993 he received his F.C.P. at the College of Teachers (London) and finished his S.Ed. at Ole Miss. He received his Doctor of Education in 1999 from UNISA. Lindgren is a member of the World Academy of Art and Science. He works as a professor of medieval history at American Military University.
Activism While at UNISA Lindgren was active in human rights and worked with children with chronic pain. He was active in the 1968 Poor People's Campaign, the Civil Rights marches, and Nuclear Weapons Protest. These activities caused various problems for Lindgren including being severely beaten in 1968. Several years later, his friend and fellow civil rights advocate was found murdered in the streets of Memphis.
He has also worked, during the turbulent era of black and white relations in Mississippi (early 1970s), at the Head Start Program and later at Job Corps, being appointed by Governor Cliff Finch. Today he conducts research in pain management and is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain.
He also served various royal and imperial families of Europe and Asia by collecting funds and was the first occidental Chancellor of the Order of the Dragon of Annam, founded by Emperor Dong Khanh. He later received the title of Hue (Marquis) from Crown Prince Bao Long.
Honors and Societies Because of his academic and humanitarian work, Lindgren has received several chivalric and dynastic knighthoods including: the Royal Order of Saint Michael of the Wing, Order of the Immaculate Conception of Vila Viçosa, Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and possesses fellowship in the Royal Asiatic Society, Royal Society for the Promotion of Health and Society of Antiquaries (Scot.). He also has the Grand Crosses of Merit (Red Cross) from the Congo and Ivory Coast.
