History
Foundation
Career Toppers is a brainchild of Saurrish Ghosh who holds a degree in Mathematics. He started his professional career with Wipro and then moved to HSBC before starting his entrepreneurial journey. The idea of forming the company did not occur to him naturally. In 2012, one of the engineering aspirants who was once tutored by Ghosh came to him for admission assistance to one of the elite private engineering colleges in West Bengal.
He had no clue about the entire process of college admissions back then. However, he wanted to give it a sincere try. After thorough research combined with hard work, he eventually succeeded in helping him secure a confirmed seat to his dream college. It was this experience that led him to start Career Toppers which would serve as a platform to help similar students secure admissions to their desired colleges.
Career Toppers went on to address career counselling, right college selection along with college admissions. In their five years of functioning they have counselled more than 500 students and admitted more than 150.
Supreme Court case
It was in the year 2015 that four students appeared for their West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (Medicals) and subsequently cleared the examination. They were, nonetheless, not considered to be placed at any Government or Private colleges in West Bengal because of their low ranks. Keeping their ranks in mind, they visited a medical college that is located in Durgapur, West Bengal and following their own pattern, sat for their Entrance examination test. Having qualified from that examination too, they could not get any ranks. The college, instead, kept all of them in their waiting list. On the other hand, the three other rounds of counselling for the students who passed the WBJEE (M) took place but these four students couldn’t get a seat there either. Finally, after a lot of persuasion they were admitted at the college In a few days, however, their admissions were cancelled. Career Toppers filed for a Writ Petition (Civil) 771/2015 in The Honourable Supreme Court of India. The court, in turn, issued notices to IQ City, CBSE, MCI and WB State Department of Health. In the matter of just 10 days, a judgement was passed. They had to go through another round of counselling at the Swasthya Bhavan according to their ranks following which an availability check was done in the Government colleges chosen by the students. Finally, the registrations of the students were completed by the MCI.
