Canadian Equal Parenting Council

The Canadian Equal Parenting Council (CEPC, Conseil Canadien Pour Le Rôle Parental Égal) is a nonprofit organization that promotes shared parenting and the belief that children have the need and right to have both parents present in their life. The organization does public education on the benefits of shared parenting and works to change family law in Canada to establish a rebuttable presumption for shared parenting as being in the best interest of children.
History and organization
The Canadian Equal Parenting Council is a national federation of about 40 nonprofit organization working for the right of children to have both parents present in their daily life. The combined membership of the affiliated organizations is approximately 10,000. The organization was founded in 2002 and incorporated in 2004. The president of the organization is Glenn Cheriton. Past presidents include
Maureen Geddes, George W. Piskor.
Family law reform
The organization has lobbied for equal parenting bills in Canada. In 2018, they submitted joint testimony on the C-78 bill to amend the Divorce Act, together with Action des nouvelles conjointes et des nouveaux conjoints du Québec, Canadian Association for Equality, Lawyers for Shared Parenting, Leading Women for Shared Parenting (Canada) and REAL Women of Canada, with their main recommendation being that the bill should adopt a rebuttable presumption of equal shared parenting as being in the best interest of the child..
Public Education
The organization provides ongoing education about equal shared parenting and the scientific research on different forms of child custody arrangements. This is done through workshops, testimonies.
